Is there a difference when gaming between the 6700k and 6800k?

I'm pretty torn between getting the 6800k and the 6700k. I do like that the 6800k has more lanes. I'm going to be mostly gaming so It does make more sense to go with the 6700k, even though It does have better single core performance, but when will that begin to show when gaming? And is there even a difference when gaming (fps) with the 6800k as opposed to the 6700k? Doesn't it really depend on the gpu more? When I view benchmarks comparing the two cpu's they are always almost identical give or take a couple of frames. When I build my rig I'm looking for something that will last me quite some time before I need to upgrade, but I will upgrade things such as storage and GPU.

And the price difference is really not that much: The 6700k + Asus Maximus VIII Formula = $700
The 6800k + Asus x99 ROG Strix Gaming = $765

Thanks :D

For gaming, no, you're going to get the same FPS with both processors 99.99% of the time, the other .01% being random anomalies.

Since we're already talking about an expensive build, I definitely think it's worth the $65 to go with the 6800K, the extra threads will help it last a little longer than the 6700K. Also, more PCI-E lanes for future upgrades.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'll just let some more people voice their opinions on the thread to see what they got to say.

Appreciate the your reply.
