Whilst gaming using DS3 Tool to connect 2 controllers simultaneously my PC, it suddenly crashed giving the BSOD (did not get error code). The PC is/was a dual booting machine with Ubuntu on a separate partition on a 2TB Seagate HDD, but the hard drive is not being detected as a boot option in the BIOS

Solution
Hey there, Summerslake.

It sounds like the HDD might have failed, especially if it's not recognized by your computer's BIOS. I'd suggest that you give it a try with a different SATA port and SATA cables, to see if the same thing happens. It would be even better if you could give it a go as a secondary storage drive with another computer, to see if its recognized.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.
