Do I need an after-market cooler for i7-4790s? Thermal paste?

Hey guys. So I have the cpu mentioned above and stress-tested it in Intel Burn Test. I decided to proceed with test no matter how high temps. got unless it hit the max safe temperature (92). I monitored temps using HWmonitor and Real Temp. just in case one of them gave false readings, and the stress level was standard in the Intel Burn test. The highest recorded temps. were 86 degrees Celsius. Obviously, when gaming, it will be much lower, but at the same time, this was done on standard stress level.

So I guess what I am asking is do I need an after-market cooler? I didn't think I needed one since the i7-4790s produces less heat than i7-4790 and i7-4790k anyways. I have stock cooler as you can probably guess. Also, since my system was pre-built, should I go buy thermal paste and apply it? Do you think I can game with just thermal paste, but still stock cooler? My PC is 2 years old approximately. I will include a screenshot of temps. with real temp program, and hwmonitor as used in stress test. Thanks in advance.

Yes, since the i7 4790s isn't designed for oc, I am not going to do that. I will however, try to oc it up to it's turbo boost and put that as it's base clock. That way, it constantly stays at it's boost. Other than that, that's it. How about thermal paste? Do you think this needs to be re-applied? It's been 2 years since it was put on.

One last thing, I forgot to turn on fan for psu (evga supernova 750). That dropped the temps. by another 1-2 degrees celcius. Also, this was done at 80 degree Fahrenheit room temperature. Please take these into account as the picture posted was with psu fan off.

Yeah the stock HSF is fine. I used it on my 4970k for a little bit while an issue with the aftermarket cooler was sorted. Well within acceptable ranges.

Keep in mind that in most cases it will never reach that temp. I stressed mine with a realistic test and came out with very similar temps as yours. I did a render in Sony Movie Studio Platinum (1440p 60FPS 5min long clip).

Ok. So since you guys say the temps. are fine, I assume I don't need to re-apply thermal paste either? Is this correct? Remember, it's been two years since thermal paste was first applied. I will keep my stock fan as you guys said that's fine. I appreciate the help guys.

Hey Sinxarknights. Thanks for the helpful informarion. One last question. When you said in most cases I will never reach those temps., does that include standard/normal stress level in the stress test(which is what I ran it at)? Cause there are multiple levels of stress higher than standard. In fact, standard is the lowest level on the stress test program. If you think I won't reach those temps. in games that I reached in standard stress level in program, then I am good to go. :)
