heard u can unlock 8 gb on 4gb RX480?

Solution
Basically, you're taking a card that has 8GB onboard memory but only 4GB of it is enabled from factory, and then forcibly enabling the other 4GB to make 8GB. I will warn you that this will void any warranty on the card so they won't accept an RMA if it fails during this process. You also need to contact the manufacturers. Many consider this illegal and may take legal action against you if they find out that you did this. Keep in mind that information is shared every time you open Radeon Control Center. It opens automatically every time Windows starts, disabling it would mean GT 430-ish graphics, so I recommend leaving it enabled.

I strongly advise against these kinds of "hacks".

Unlocked means to gain access to a part of the card that's not normally accessible. Be careful, these kinds of actions can sometimes result in power delivery and/or cooling issues.

BIOS flash means to replace the firmware on the card with another version. I never recommend putting a BIOS on a card unless it's from the card manufacturer, and even then I always contact the manufacturer to assure model compatibility and ask if there have been complications with the process.

This is no different than unlocking processor cores. From what I heard, some cards were able to be unlocked to the full on 8Gb. How long this will last and on what cards is no guarantee. When I was coin mining with my video cards I played with the bios and firmware a lot on the cards, both NVidia and AMD, and when you know what you're doing, it's a relatively easy, painless process, HOWEVER, you need to know what you're doing, I have a pretty decent amount of cash I can afford to play with so new hardware isn't a problem if I brick something, For the speed upgrade for gaming and such, I can't recommend playing with the cards firmware, there's a lot that can go wrong and unless you have the stuff sitting around to make it right, it's not worth it. If you like to tinker and don't mind the possibility of bricking a brand new card, read everything, and I mean everything about it, talk to people who have done it and get their opinions.
