Hey all, just put in a new cpu (as listed above) ran into problems.

First, the system would not post at all. Then I tired removing just 1 of my 2 4GB RAM sticks.

After the first boot into the BIOS with the new CPU in, I shut down the computer and installed the RAM stick the I previously took out.

Now the system starts up for about 2-3 seconds and then shuts down and repeats the same thing over and over.

Any suggestions?

I can get the same kit? Or would it be worth trying to upgrade to 2 x 8GB sticks?

Awesome. Going to do that now.

What exactly do you mean though about it not being a coincidence?

After taking both RAM sticks and trying them in both DIM slots, they both worked. But the Dim slot 2 didn't work at all. Maybe a MOBO issue?

It's not new info, he said it in op. It may not be the mobo either. The change in hardware shouldn't have messed anything up and it's not a coincidence. Something might have went wrong during installation like maybe you bent a pin. With the cpu being the only change, you can't count that out. But I've had simple dimm issues where just reseating the ram fixed it.

How easy is it to fix a pin in the socket? I've fixed pins on AMD chips before, but I have been told that intel socket pins are EXTREMELY fragile.

Just don't want to fry the mobo i have.

yeah the dim is the only thing not working. but the dim slot was working before upgrading the cpu.

If you can work around this, I would recommend not trying to straighten any possibly bent pins... They're very delicate and a screw up could be the end of the usefulness of your motherboard.

For example... If you need 16GB down the road, just get a kit of two 8GB sticks and still leave that one slot unused.

After looking at the socket, it's like 1-2 pins that are bent that I think I can position relativity easily.

Besides, I don't know exactly how the warranty would work with the DIMM slot not working. If that is the problem

lets say that i fix the pins and the DIMM slot still doesn't work.

What's the next course of action? just trying to get it repaired by Asus?

i have noticed a considerable drop in performance and loading times.

OKAY. Now, I fixed the 2 pins that were slighty bent. The system still posts and runs fine but with only ONE stick of RAM in the first dimm slot.

Is this just a mobo issue now?
