Hello friends am about to purchase a gtx 1070 but i just want to clear my doubts so that i dont waste my money....will my i5-6600 be enough for the gtx 1070 or will it bottleneck the gtx 1070's performance...please help

Solution
If you plan to use the GTX 1070 with 1080p@144/165Hz monitor, any i5 will be limiting performance in some CPU intensive games.
If you have 1080p@60Hz or 1440p or even higher res monitor, you have nothing to worry about.

Hi, so I have an i5-6600 (no k) + gtx 1070 and I played Assassin's Creed Unity, at some places (places with a bunch of npc) I got 40-46fps (it mostly stays 57-60fps all the time) with all settings maxed out except the anti aliasing, I set it to MSAA 2x. When I checked the CPU usage using MSI Afterburner I found out that the usage of all 4 cores are always 86-99% all the time, mostly above 90% (everytime not only in some places with lots of npc), while the gpu usage is only around 60% to 80%. Do you think my i5-6600 is bottlenecking my gpu in such open world and probably cpu intensive game? My monitor is 1080 resolution with 60Hz refresh rate btw.

Your cpu is not bottlenecking your GPU. Just set the MSAA to higher value to improve the GPU utilization :)
on a serious note, you CPU does limit the game perfromance. Either due to the game code or because something else in the system occupies CPU resources (antivirus, browser etc.).
Even with this limitation you are very close to 60FPS - what your monitor can display. It usually more disappointing when you have 30-40% unused GPU and frame rate far from what monitor can display (for example game running at 100FPS on 144Hz monitor with GPU usage 60-70%).
No let's assume that we have perfect scaling between GPU utilization and FPS. So on average it is loaded at ~70%. So by upgrading to an i7, you will gain about 30% more FPS in this game. it means that this game will mostly run at 60 or more FPS.
Up to you if it's worth the upgrade.

This is a little late but I just want to know if thebottlenecker.com is reliable because according to it, there's a 14% bottleneck if one is to pair the i5-6600(non k) with the GTX 1070. I also have the i5-6600 and like the thread starter, I'm also going to buy the GTX 1070. Depending on your recommendations I may not. I know you all are saying that there is no bottleneck but please consider checking the website. Please respond.

^ its already been covered but the answwr is it depends on your monitor resolution & refresh rate.

At 1080p 60-75 htz no issue.
At 1080p 100htz+ the i5 will limit your max fps
At 1440p 60htz no issue
At 1440p 100htz+ the cpu will still likely limit fps more than the 1070

There is no real issue at all pairing a 1070 with a decent quad core i5 , its still a good pairing just take into account that some newer titles are either optimised for more than 4 cores now or are just badly optimised full stop

Unity mentioned above is one of those games.

You will always get playable fps with ultra quality graphics with a 1070 , whether there is a bottleneck or not is absolutely irrelevant imo , theres a bottleneck in any system to some extent.

I also don't understand why anyone gets stressed over not seeing 100% gpu usage , it doesn't make any sense to me at all

If a game looks good & is playable then that's enough for me.

Go for it...I have been using both of them for more than a year now....the only bottle neck for me is my monitor it has 60Hz refresh rate...am doing all my games on 60fps...except Star Citizen which is in pre alpha...but even in that game am getting mostly 35+ fps where as many other players don't even get above 30fps. :D

Yes you are right my monitor is 1440p 60hz...and I have no issues at all :D
