Do I need a new GPU? Or is it something else?

Hi, I need some help as I can't seem to figure out the problem with my PC. Or what the problem is. Basically, in some games (mainly GTA V) I can run them at 60FPS fine, no drops, nothing goes wrong. Then I would go on the next day, and all of a sudden my FPS is constantly below 40FPS and drops constantly, making the game unplayable. I was thinking of upgrading my GPU, but I am really not sure as some days it is fine.

Here are my specs:

Windows 10 Home 64 bit
i5 4690k at 3.5GHz
8GB RAM
EVGA GTX 960 SSC 2GB
Corsair CX500M PSU
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 mobo

What I dont understand is how some days it is fine and others it is not.

Thank you for your time, any answers/suggestions are welcome. I just need some help.

EDIT: Ordered some cans of compressed air, hopefully cleaning my PC fully will help. If not I will update this thread again for help.
EDIT 2 : Fully cleaned my PC today, doesn't seem to be helping and if so, its very minimal. :/

There's a slight chance that it's dependent on what's happening in the game, but I find that pretty unbelievable. Have you tried shutting down background applications and services via Task Manager? If all else fails, I suggest just lowering some options enough that you get somewhere around 80+ FPS, instead of 60.

-Cheers!

Hi, thanks for the reply. To start with, when the FPS is bad (dropping and never reaching 60) it is constant for some reason no matter what is happening in the game, I could be sitting still and my FPS wouldnt stay at a constant rate. I play all settings on low and always have done so im really not sure. Like I said, I want to see if there is another problem other than my graphics card, as a new graphics card is not cheap. Thanks again.

Huh. That is quite strange, isn't it? It's most likely not the graphic card's fault though, as that as a pretty good card. I only have a GTX 750 TI and I can run GTA V. The only other solutions I can think of are 1. verifying the integrity of the game cache, and 2. re-installing the game if #1 doesn't work.
