I just faced a toast WB 750GB hard disk and replaced it with a new WD 1TB one. The problem occurs rarely, sometimes showing a blue screen, sometimes a black screen and upon booting I get a message "Bootable device not found" and then when I restart the system, everything runs smoothly. I am apprehended that this may be the groundwork of some severe problem that is coming, please suggest me what to do.

Hi there HIJKMN,

That is really unpleasant. :(

I believe it would be a really nice idea to back up the data stored on it, until you sort this out.
After that, you can run both short and extended DLG tests on the drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=KToX4Y
The results should show the overall health status of the drive.

Changing both SATA and power cables will not hurt as well. You can even use a different SATA port.

Is the drive under warranty?

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

The restart process is really fast, so I never really got the chance to see the message. Sorry, I can't help you here.

When the computer is booting up press F8 repeatedly until a menu shows up. Choose disable restart on blue screen. Try to make this routine until the problem occurs again.

Yup, the drive is well within the warranty period, however, what I am talking about is my laptop, so I am not so sure whether I have a different SATA port on the machine.

I will try to change the SATA and power cables if possible.

The S.M.A.R.T. report also showed no abnormalities. The health report showed 100.

I think there is another test, I will keep you updated on the result when I get it done.
