RmInUmZ :
Simple question, I have a 500gb HDD lying around and the only sata cable I have is in another computer, so using it as a slave isn't an option so I was wondering if there was a way to clone everything on my current 250gb HDD to the 500gb HDD, and if I would run into any issues with windows licensing? Nothing else is changing but the hard drive, and as for my OS I have windows 10 insider preview. I shouldn't imagine that would change anything though, is this possible or would I have to buy a new licensing key and re download all the games and shit that takes 3 days for my crappy 4mbps internet to download?
To migrate to a new drive:
--------------------------------------
Download and install
Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration if the target is a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new drive
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new drive
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up
It should boot from the new drive, just as like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.
If it works, and it should, all is good.
Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
