8 pin cpu connecter problem (eps12v and atx12v)

My psu is the cx600 and my mobo is the z170 pc mate from msi. The cpu cable from the psu is an eps 12v (I'm fairly sure) however the socket on the mobo is atx 12v. They fit together however they have different shapes and I was wondering whether it would blow my components if I try to boot with it attached. Both the socket and the cable is 8 pin btw

They are the same thing. Sometimes the pins on the connectors are different shapes than the port. Rounded pins can fit into a rounded or square port, but square pins can only fit into square ports.

Hi

Make sure your not confusing a pci-e. Graphics card 8 pin plug which often is a 6+2 pin plug With the atx 4 pin or eps 4+4 pin plugs
Wiring of these two are different & likely to cause damage

I am sure, as the cable is labelled cpu on the side. Also I'm fairly sure that the socket in question on the mobo is cpu power (it is labelled jpwr2)
