I'm building a beast of a gaming PC. I need help with some parts though. I want a sli 1080 setup but i only plan on getting only 1 right now and getting the 2nd in a few weeks. I want to game at high settings and stream as well on the same PC. I looked up CPU's and found the 6700k to be a great CPU. Also the 6800k. but I want to know if the 6800k would be better for me since I'm streaming. Or is there a beefier CPU out that that I can get that has even more power than those? After I choose the CPU I can start picking out the motherboard, power supply, and water cooling for the CPU. I would very much appreciate the help guys! Thanks!

Beast Build. Don't recommend anything higher than a i7-6700K for just gaming and streaming. You can easily add a second card later.

I have a current pc so I have a case and memory. Do you honestly thing a 6700k will be good for streaming maybe in a year or 2 ? Do you think if i got the 6800k it would be more future proof ? I kinda want something that will last a few years. I have money now and I wanna build something great.

What case do you have? What memory do you have, is it DDR4? You can't use DDR3... The i7-6700K is going to last a long time. Many people are still running their old i7-3770K's. The 6800K runs on the X99 platform so you couldn't use it on a Socket 1151 motherboard. If you really do want to go with the X99 platform, it is more future proof. The i7-6850K has 40 PCIe lanes so you won't have to worry about running out of lanes when you SLI your cards. So I would go with that instead of the 6800K if you can afford it. Here is a X99 Beast build:

Oh Im completely gutting the pc, just using the case and the hdd and ssd I have, I dont think my 600w psu will handle what i want to do so thats out too. So that means I'll buy whatever motherboard and ram will work with the cpu I get. Yes I dont mind the extra price for the X99, if it'll be better in the long run because thats what im aiming for. So for the $170 difference between the 6800k and the 6850k, how much is that price difference justified for performance ? I mean what does the 6850k have thats more outstanding than the 6800k? I know it has 40 pci lanes compared to 28 lanes. and a .2 ghz difference. Also how would I hypothetically run out of lanes just wondering so I would know? One more thing why 4x4gb for ram? what would be the difference between that and 2X8gb ram ?

Are you going to use any PCIe based devices or add any M.2 drives (like the 950 Pro I recommended)?

If you "run out of lanes", than one or both of the GPU's will run in 8x mode instead of 16x mode. With the newer cards coming out, having x16/x16 over x16/x8, or x8/x8 has been proven to be better in certain high bandwidth titles, such as The Witcher 3, yet no advantage in others. It really depends on the games you play.

Also with a X99 build it's recommended to go with four sticks of RAM for Quad channel memory. For a socket 1151 build it's dual channel so you only need two sticks to activate it on that platform.

So if you end up not using PCIe based devices or add any M.2 drives, the 6800K will be fine. In fact you could even save a little bit more money by going with the 5820K.
