Hi,
Just recently, my Xbox 360 wired controller stopped working Windows 7 (64 bit). When I plug the controller into the USB port, a small pop-up message appears in the bottom right corner stating "USB Device Not Recognized."

This issue just occurred two days ago. Previously, the controller worked perfectly fine. I just plugged in the controller and the Windows would automatically download the necessary software to make it work. But, when I plugged in the controller two days ago, a new Windows Update appeared for Xbox controller, so I downloaded the update.

However, after that, my Windows is not recognizing the Xbox controller and shows as 'Unknown Device' under USB Human Interface Device in the Device Manager. I thought that the driver is not correctly installed so I downloaded the new driver 'Xbox 360 Accessories Software 1.2' from [Mircosoft's official website](https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/products/gaming/xbox-360-controller-for-windows/52a-00004#techspecs-connect).

But, the problem still exists. My Windows won't recognize my Xbox 360 controller. I read some older threads and tried some these fixes (from: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2652446/computer-recognize-xbox-360-controllers-anymore.html), but still no luck. Here is what I have tried so far:

- Uninstall and reinstalled the new driver.
- Connected the controller in USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.
- Tried downloading the driver for Windows 7 32 bit.
- Checked the controller by plugging it into my Xbox 360 (the controller works perfectly fine)

Please can anyone advice what should I do. Looking for help!

Sean,

If you are running windows 7, and have windows backup an restore points enabled.

Just open up system restore.
Select the show more restore points option in the new box or window that opens.
click on each restore point made where a windows update was applied.

Select the restore point made.

And once the system restore is complete ant the system restarts.
Plug the xbox 360 controller back into a usb port of your system and it should pick it up again download the required driver and work for you.

It is the quickest way to repair windows where a Microsoft update caused something not to work right after the update was installed on your system Sean.

I tried this solution but the controller still doesn't work even after the restore. Is it possible that the controller might have any issue? As it was working fine, but it all came to the dust after that update.
