Things that cause input lag?

I recently was playing CS:GO on my PC and realized I felt input lag. I thought at first it was just my imagination, but it felt really strange. So I then undid some driver updates one at a time and rolled them back and after rolling back my realtek sound driver to a 2014 version, the input lag was gone. (Or at least a lot better). I have a z97 mark 1 usb 3.0 motherboard and it has a realtek onboard sound card. I am now wondering if the drivers made this much of a difference could it be possible that other things are causing input lag?

I have heard realtek is really bad in terms of input lag, does anyone else have experience with this? Should I just go out and buy a soundcard? Or do soundcards cause even more input lag?

Solution
I have had realtek onboard sound cards for the last decade at least and never had an input lag related to sound card.
you might try to disable the GPU sound card functionalty.

Thing is though, I always thought the same myself. But it appears many people are reporting that certain drivers, for sound cards and for graphics cards even can create additional input lag. Really hard to pin down the amount of input lag but it was definitely there... The last thing I tried was rolling back a realtek sound driver, and after further searching the internet, other people are complaining about realtek sound drivers as well. Just wondering I guess what to expect if I got a regular sound card.
