Mid-High Range System Upgrades

Hello Community,

Earlier I posted a thread about upgrading my CPU/MoBo, just wondering if there is anything else I could do to upgrade my system.

The current system is as follows:
CPU - i5 4590
Motherboard - H81M-PLUS
Storage: 2x 1TB HDD + 1x 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD
PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 550w
GPU: GTX 970
CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13

The Case+Fans aren't really and issue, and I don't really want to upgrade them, the current upgrades I was looking at is getting a i7 6700K, and the Z170 Sniper (I have a green-coloured build). I would like at least 16GB of RAM, so if any recommendations could be recommended that would be best.

Not really sure what else I can upgrade, so any ideas? I don't really have a budget as I will end up buying them over a few months.

Other Upgrade Ideas: 250GB SSD? (MAYBE) an AIO Water Cooler.

Or if you disagree with any of my upgrade choices, what should I choose otherwise?

In addition to this, you guys might want to know that I'm from the land of the Brits, so if possible search from there, Newegg delivery prices are a bit on the high side.

Well if your just gaming & general use on the desktop and only using a single GPU then the i5-6600K would be good. Plus with the additional savings you could get a better SSD, MB, etc.

You could always get the Xeon E3 1231 V3, that way its similar to a i7 but much cheaper and this way you won't need to replace your MB, RAM or OS (If not retail). A larger SSD is always a good upgrade as it can improve load times for some games such as BF4 so your in before the action starts and upgrading to 16gb of RAM is a small but noticeable (IMO) improvement.

I already have 16GB of RAM, but why I want to upgrade my MoBo and CPU is that the Motherboard seems to be taking a lot of hits recently, and after 2 years of basically, constant use, it seems to be slowing down quite a lot, and the PCI-E Slot is really temper-mental, and sometimes I have to reseat my GPU for it to run to its proper potential. And for my OS, I wont replace it either way, I'll just clone the drive to the new SSD and increase the partition size of it so it has its full 250GB. Or, depending on the price, the full 500GB.

Do you have any recommendations for mid-range SSDs of either 250GB or 500GB, I know the Samsung 750/850 Evos are good SSDs, but the prices are on the high side, for the 850 anyway. 250GB 750 Evo for £60, pretty good if you ask me, sort of leaning towards that, and the 500GB for £118, but if there are any cheaper ones, but still really reliable and have good Read/Write Speeds and IOPS then that would be great assistance.

And as for the i7 Etc, I would love the fact that any video rendering is available, and you can overclock it, which I plan on doing, and eventually upgrading to water cooling. As well as the future proofing, I want this build to last a good 2-3 years before I have to upgrade anything (Storage is understandable if needs replacing if any failures occur.

Oh, issues with the MB would definitely warrant a newer system if your outside the RMA policy and yes the i7 would be a good choice for OCing and rendering. You may not need AIO water cooling as Skylake OC's fairly easily on higher end air and you can save a bit of money. As far as the SSD the EVO's are excellent but for a budget I would probably go with the Sandisk Ultra II or SSD Plus are decent.

Well I got the motherboard quite a while ago, had it for either 2, or 3 years this Christmas, and I got it through PC Specialist, so its going to be kind of gone now. Now that I think of it, would a 6600K be a better choice, and spending extra on the SSD to get a 500GB one instead of 250GB, as spending £100 less on the CPU would be a better preference, I doubt i'd do too much rendering anyways, I have an i7 Laptop too, so that'll do nicely. Should've thought of that.

What would you recommend, 500GB 750 Evo (Cheaper) or the 850 Evo, what is the performance difference between the 2?

Also, what would be better, 4x8GB or 4x4GB, I don't think the 32GB is really needed these days. So I'm heading towards the 4x4GB. Any recommendations?

I would go i7 (for rendering as the i5 is really a gaming only CPU), H7 cooler or your current cooler (only get a better cooler if the CPU is overheating), 16gb RAM (2x8gb) & the 750 EVO 500gb if its cheaper then the 850 EVO since the difference should be minor and not noticeable.

I looked at it now, and I basically don't render anything anymore, and if I do I use my laptop, and leave it behind me for it to render while I'm on my computer, I thought my times on my laptop were terrible, but they're what the processor should do (Basically 1 minute of footage every 2 minutes-ish), I mainly use my computer for gaming and just the general, basic use, so the i7 is a little overkill I believe.

Probably going to stick to the MoBo I found already, as it follows my colour scheme, unless there is an all black, or black + blue/purple MoBo then I doubt I would change anything. But they seem to be double the price, and the one I found seems to be really good, and has similar abilities to the rest.

The Z170 Sniper.
