Is it normal for CPU/GPU/Service monitoring programs to spike CPU temps?

Hey all,

I'm wondering this because when I start CAM (the program I use to control the fan speeds on my X61 Kraken) I see core temps jump up to the high thirties/low forties for a small amount of time and then level out but sometimes spike again intermittently.

What is most worrying about this to me is that the core temps can be ridiculously different from each other. One of the worst ones I have seen was somewhere in the low 20's for one core and then low 50's for another.

I know that this isn't a good thing but the strange part it is it doesn't seem to replicate whilst I am gaming- all four cores generally stay within 10 degrees Celsius of each other.

My specs are-
Intel i7 6700k @ 4.4Ghz
MSI Krait Gaming 3 Mobo
ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1080
Corsair HX850i Platinum PSU
NZXT X61 Kraken Cooler

Thanks for any advice.
