Hey ppl,

i am on a dilemma here between getting an external HDD with type-C or with type USB 3.0.
to my understanding Type-C is x5 faster than USB 2.0 and x2 faster than USB 3.0. (please correct me if im wrong)

my new laptop has :
x1 USB 2.0
x1 USB 3.0
x1 Type-C

Purposes of the HDD :
i have a 512GB SSD on my laptop, i will have only OS and programs on that SSD and maybe few stuff such as several games or anything that i want to run on the SSD, the HDD will be my primary source of work where there im going to store all of my files, projects, folders of w/e that will be as i am a programmer and a starter video editor + im a gamer (mainly will be used for programming and editing, this laptop WONT be used for hardcore gaming, just stuff like WoW and MOBAs, i have my desk beast PC for that ;))

so my question :
Should i take an external HDD WITH type-c or USB 3.0?

thanks to the helpers.

There is a transition period it seems where some manufacturers are using type C with USB 3. I suspect your laptop is USB 3.1 if it is quite new.

I personally would go with WD over Transcend.

The biggest advantage of USB 3 is that it will connect to USB 3.0 or 2.0 connectors without any adapters. And the maximum speed of USB 3.0 is pretty much sufficient for most uses.

Since your laptop has a type C connector, I would probably go with the type C but you may need an adapter to connect it to many older devices since type C is the newer connector.

The type C connector if USB 3.1 does have twice the maximum speed. Only fairly new devices have USB type C connectors but they are getting popular fast as most new devices are using them.

i see, it does say its USB 3.0, i assume then its not worth it, that brings me into the company of the HDD now... WD or Transcend, any advises? (since its not a USB 3.1 then going for normal connection of USB 3.0)
