I've got a bit of a graveyard building up of computers that I seem to be unable to throw away. I'm a pre-beginner computer builder [just dreaming so far and secretly hoping my current computer dies...] but I'm pretty handy. After taking apart some towers, I started thinking about how I could reuse these parts to chill the water coming out of my kitchen sink. I plan to rig up a filter system anyway, and this would be a luxury upgrade. So, I got a Peltier cooler to play with. Now, I'm looking for a water cooling block, and there seems to be a few 40 mm +/- ones out there. Here's my question; what kind of temperature drop can I expect with a stock CPU cooler, vs a high end one, attached to the hot side of the Peltier with a water block on the other side as water makes a single pass through that block?

Does anyone have some other ideas or insights that I'm overlooking?
