I just read the BF 1 minimum requirements and was quite surprised. As a matter of fact, I'm planning to get a new gaming rig and get the Intel i5 - 6600K, as I did a bit of reaserch and it seems to be enough for gaming, paired with my Saphire RX 480 4GB.

Should I be worried? I've got a 5 years old Phenom II x6 1090t and upgrading to this new CPU. Although, now that I saw the specs, quite frightened about getting my i5 6600k obsolete in a year or two.

What's your thought on the matter?

Sometimes the 'requirements' are a bit off for games. They just grab a cpu model and slap it on there. If you notice they also say an fx 6300 is in their min specs and that falls way below a 6600k in terms of performance. I'm not even sure if they tested it to truly find an accurate cpu requirment, it looks like lazy marketing imho. The 6600k won't be obsolete in a year or two.
Are you also getting a decent Z170 motherboard with the 6600k? They quote it as the "minimum" based on its stock settings, but with Z-series boards the unlocked Intel CPUs (ones with "K" suffix) can be overclocked quite easily well beyond their base performance. If you're not getting a decent Z170 board, then you're better off with an i7 6700 instead.

Also, unless you plan to overclock the Rx 480, I recommend going for the 8GB model. The 8GB cards used higher quality VRAM chips, which allows them to be clocked quite a bit higher, and this does actually translate to decent boost in performance compared to 4GB cards. However, this doesn't mean that you're stuck with lower performance if you get the 4GB card as you can still just boost the memory clock manually.

Thanks for your reply. I'm getting the msi z170a gaming m3 as it matches with the color theme with my rig, also is cheaper than the asus pro gaming. Should be able to overclock my CPU with it as I've been told. I just want to be able to play new AAA games for the next few years with this CPU, upgrading at most the GPU.

Regarding the GPU, I'm not planning to overclock it much, if at all. Will be playing on FHD resolution and probably change the gpu in two years if it requires. the 4GB is nearly 80€ cheaper than the 8GB and I'm on a budget - best bang-for-the-buck rig
