Hi there. I've been trying to find an answer on the forum but no luck so far. So maybe someone had the same problem as I have and can help me out.

Basically, I have a hard drive that I use as storage for only video files, a 3TB seagate. The drive started acting up but not playing the video files, and also don't want to move or copy any of the files. If I open any of the folders in windows explorer, the green bar runs for ages, and sometimes freezes.

So far I've run checkdisk on the drive, and defragged it, but both times the results come back saying that there isn't any bad sectors on the drive. I've taken the drive out of the PC and put it in a hard drive enclosure to check with my laptop if the problem persists and it does. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi there Francois166,

So the drive is not accessible right? You can't really take your data off the drive?
My suggestion would be to try to back it up first and the test it, as Colif suggested.

You can check the Ubuntu Live CD approach out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode
Just boot up from a CD or a flash drive, navigate to the drive and see whether you will manage to transfer your data.

Once you've done that, you can test the drive with a tool that can provide a SMART report. (brand specific or a third party one)
