I'm very new to adding parts into my computer and im really scared becauuse i dont want to turn the graphics card on without making sure

It is just an extra bit of the cards circuit board.
Where the slot is just before the small hole is where the card when fitted to the Pci-e graphics card slot of the motherboard.
Is what we call a key, it ensures that the card cannot be placed in the wrong type of card slot Organic.
And the slot will sit over the outer left most front edge of the Pci-e card slot of the motherboard as it should do.

It also helps align all of the gold fingers on the graphics cards connector edge to the correct gold pins on the internal Pci-e card slot connections on the motherboard.

It is correctly fitted if you line the front slot up with the front left edge of the Pci-e graphics card slot on the motherboard.

The extra bit with the small hole in it...

Which motherboard do you have?

Are you trying to put the card in a PCI slot? Or a PCIe slot? Those are different.

You want the PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard (assuming it has one)

its the one that says z97-PRO on top of the pci one, it also says pci(x16_1) at the top right of it in small letters

The extra bit with the small hole in it always sits out of the socket or slot as it is just to make sure the card stays firmly seated in the slot as a bit of support.
