When to Defrag My Hard Drive?

Hello,

I have recently looked into defragging my hard drive but I have a few questions. I have a single Hard Drive which is 2TB with 800GB free and 35% Fragmented and I am running Windows 8.1. I have told this is a rather large number and that Windows should Defrag for me in the background but it doesn't seem to be doing so, where would I find the option for this and should I enable it? Secondly I have been recommended that I use Defraggler and do a full Defrag of the Hard Drive but when I start it gives me an estimate of around 4 days to complete and I don't feel comfortable leaving my computer on for that amount of time, especially overnight. Is there a way I could do it in stages?

Solution
That "4 days" is just an estimate. Let it run for a few hours and see what happens.
I've had mine stick on "1 minute remaining" for an hour, then shoot up to 11 hours, than back down to 2 minutes.
