CPU=AMD FX-8320
GPU=Nvidia gtx 970
RAM=16 gb ram
PSU=High Power 800w HPL-800BR-F14S
Motherboard=Gigabyte GA 78LMT USB3

My CPU and GPU are not overclocked.

Hey, the problem i have is that my PC freezes within 15 to 40 minutes into a game that has high graphics, like Far Cry 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, GTA V, etc.

When it freezes i can't move my mouse or use my keyboard and have to do a hard reboot.
I suspect that my problem has something to do with my PSU or GPU, because from searching around that internet i haven't found much about it and the only things i found are that it is not a trusted PSU. And the GPU overheats like crazy, its stays at 38-40 Celsius when idling and when i play games it goes over 80 celcius.

im not the best at computers so i ask for help and i want to find the cause of this problem

Then I might try what chanwei suggested. Give some extra cooling power and check your temps/make sure that they are indeed lower, and that you are indeed still crashing. After that, I don't know that I'd immediately jump to a reformat... a hard freeze isn't exactly something that typically happens with any software issues, especially if it's an issue that only recently began occurring. I might try to system restore it to a point where you weren't having issues, but that would be as far as I would go. Otherwise, I would try a new PSU.

The PSU would be the most obvious problem. It is tested that generic PSUs may be marked 600 but only really deliver 300W. Even if it is not the PSU causing problems, I would still upgrade is anyway, but for now; the best approach is to get a better PSU.

sorry i accidentally clicked and tried to see if i could remove it but thanks for removing it, so back to the question it is a blower cooler 970 from msi

Not a problem, I do it sometimes too.

Alright, I would go grab https://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner MSI afterburner if you do not already have it, and I would define a fan curve that is much higher than the stock fan curve. Blower coolers do not cool well, it's not unheard of in games to see the GPU sitting at 80+C when it's being fully utilized. If you set the fan to run faster you should fix some of the GPU temp issues.

How about your CPU?

A gtx970 can go toward to 80 degree isn't simple. try remove your 2 side left&right casing and use a electricfan to blow it while open the game you trying to play. if it still freezes. then it was not a hot temp issue. and I will rather reformat pc if it does then thats the last choice to spend a money to change a PSU.

I already have a custom fan curve which helps by slowing down the time it takes for freezes and my CPU temp when idling is around 30 and when playing games it can be around 43 to 52 Celsius

How high is the peak fan % going on your custom curve? and at what temperature does it reach that peak? If you doing that is slowing the time it takes to freeze that points to your GPU temps locking up your system.
