Hi,

I have recently upgraded my GPU to a GTX 1070 (from a GTX 590) and have overclocked my 2600k to 4.4Ghz in attempt to cause less of a bottleneck of my new graphics card.

In a couple of CPU intensive games that i have tried (Dota 2 & Tera) my CPU is now reaching maximum temperatures of 80C after 30 minutes or so of gameplay.

I know this is on the hot side and preferable temperatures are under 75C so im just wondering what thoughts are on how i should proceed...

Is low 80'sC too hot to be running during gaming or should i just keep running my 2600k at 4.4Ghz?

Should i invest in an aftermarket cooler to bring the temperatures down? If so, any recommendations on a cooler?

Should i leave the current cooler and downclock my cpu to around 4Ghz?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

80degC isn't that much of a problem

However, I'd get an aftermarket cooler anyway just to reduce the fan noise. Aside from the Hyper 212 there is:

a) Cryorig H7 (quieter than CM 212, though setup slightly messy)
b) Noctua NH-U12S (more expensive, but very quiet and fan should last longer)

*Make sure you use the motherboard fan control software and setup the best profile to keep it cool but also quiet. Perhaps set at 40% RMP until 50degC, then ramp up to 100% at 90degC (which you won't hit) depending on how good the cooler is.

I won't link to the Noctua as I've used it. I have the fan at 20% in idle for one PC at 300RPM. It's barely noticeable...

I'm loving the reviews for the Hyper 212 Evo and for the money it sounds like i cant go too wrong with it. Only problem is i am in Australia and cant seem to find a seller. Everyone seems to only sell the Hyper 212x. My understanding is this will basically do the same job but is just more expensive...
