Hey everyone, I know I can get the right answer in here. You know your stuff! I am looking to invest in a powerful desktop for video editing, mainly Premiere pro. a bit of After Effects. And most likely 4k footage next year. I came across this ad on craigslist. I am not that up to date on whats worth what. and yes please know I did spend hours trying to price out the items but they varied so much. I am not sure if it is because the lack of model numbers etc anyway here is the details of the ad...

Title : 12/24-core @ 4.0GHz Supercomputer! 48GB Memory, GTX Titan 6GB - $3300

Available for sale is an excellent condition custom built supercomputer. You will never see a system like this, period, and definitely not for this price. Any 12-core cpu would be $3000 by itself. This system is an absolute beast and crushes anything you throw it's way. It is the perfect 3d animation/rendering computer. It's an amazing video editing/rendering computer and just an overall killer machine. It has 12 cores in it but with multi threading apps such as 3D, compositing and video it runs as a 24-core computer! Scores a 20+ in Cinebench (if you're familiar with this, this is a very good score). The system is my baby, but I just dont have time to do post production much, living more in the production world these days. The system probably has about 1000 hours on it, which is basically nothing for a system like this.

Here's the specs:
-2x Intel Xeon 6-core 3.25GHz CPU's running at 4.0GHz, for 12-cores and 24-threads (basically 24-cores with multi-threaded applications. That's a lot of power! (x5670)
-2x H100i Closed-loop liquid CPU Coolers with Upgraded Gentle Schythe Fans keep it running cool at 4.0GHz
-EVGA SR-2 Workstation/Server Motherboard, the perfect motherboard for a Serious Workstation.
-48GB DDR3 Memory
-480GB Sata III SSD running Windows 10 Pro x64 or 7 Ultimate x64. Could also configure as a hackintosh running Mac OSX if you'd prefer.
-3TB System Storage Drive
-GTX Titan 6GB OC Graphics Card with Display Port, HDMI, and DVI ports. It is a great card for 3d programs such as Maya or 3ds max, editing in Resolve, Premiere CC with CUDA, After Effects, Mari, etc.
- Now the crazy part, the beast of a case that houses this system. It is a custom case from Caselabs in California. It is the MAGNUM T10 Case. This case has some of the best airflow you can possibly have in a system and space for up to 25+ Hard Drives, 5.25" accessories, etc. There are fans inside keeping things nice and cool, as well one right under the K5000 Graphics card to keep it cool as well. It has all the upgrades, Clear Windowed Side Panel, Extra Height on the ventilation at the top, wheels on the bottom so you can easily wheel around the system, in your studio, office, etc. Also has a a digital lcd fan controller, Solid State Drive reader, hot swappable Hard Drive Bays, and internal Hard Drive bays with a custom fan to keep them cool. This case alone retails for over $600. And that's without shipping.
- 1200W Modular High Quality Power Supply. Overkill, but you always want a lot of extra power with a system like this.
-DVD Burner

So there you have it. This truly is a one of a kind system. If you are a 3d artist, Compositor, Video Editor, Motion Graphics Artist, etc. dont let this system slip away. You will regret it! Price is firm. Please no low-ballers, I'm not lowering the price. /end

so is $3300 CANADIAN DOLLARS (2504.37) U.S dollars worth it for this system? I know there is some brand name not mention but roughly I was wondering.

am I missing out if I don't get this or can I built something better for my video editing needs that will benefit me? sorry for the long post. Just need some pro advice.

i wouldn't buy it, at the amount of money just build it yourself or have a local computer repair shop build you one. Just if anything goes wrong you will have a huge headache over the warranty. I would never buy a pc like that unless it was from an actual repair shop or seller that has an actual business.

well it is my career at this point and want to be able to work with 4k starting next year as that is becoming in demand. I just want a beefy video editing system and they way this is worded it sounded like an amazing system for an amazing price, Being out of the scene building computers or years I thought I would get input from people who know their stuff and value so I appreciate all the responses. so far 3 of you said don't do it, and I think we can call it at this point. Thanks again, I will look into building my own system.

OK. I only asked, because a lot of people say "video editing", and it turns out to be 1 x 3 minute thing a week.

But other people see 'video editing', and immediately recommend a $4,000 system.
If this is a paid gig, then you, you need a beefy system.

But not that one.

like i mentioned in another reply. This is my career. I edit 5 days a week 6-10 hours a day so I am looking into getting a rig to start moving into 4k editing.

I would look into what cards are supported by your video editing software first. Like I know some of the newest cards are being out performed by the last gen ones in some video editing programs because of them not being fully supported yet.
