Hi all, I'll cut straight to the chase with my hardware:

Intel Core i3 6100
MSI B150A Gaming Pro
8GB Corsair ValueSelect DDR4 2133Mhz
MSI R9 380 Gaming 2G
EVGA 500W 80+ White
2x SSD (1 Samsung 240GB and 1 SanDisk 120GB)
1x HDD (Western Digital 500GB)

I am looking to upgrade from an i3 to an i7 6700K. I will not be overclocking it as my motherboard isn't Z170. Will the 500W PSU be enough for the i7? I also plan to get a more efficient graphic card late in 2017. Any opinions?

Solution
If u get the i7 and a gtx 1080 or 1070 a 500w psu will work fine , the component wattage won't be higher than 450w. But if ur getting sli or crossfire u will need a better psu with higher wattage

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to know whether it will get it through the next year/year and a half. I've just bought it last March so it should still offer good power.

What is the worst that could happen though? If it works, then it works...right?
Thanks for the feedback

A 6700K offers the highest clocks of any processor on my motherboard. Its 4.00/4.20Ghz stock clock should be enough for gaming while keeping it modestly futureproof should I decide to change motherboard to a Z170.

Cheers for the feedback

with those units you never know. there are fellows who change their hardware and suddenly it doesn't work anymore for no apparent reason.
but if it's that new, you should be fine for the next 1, 2 years for certain
