Moving files from old Hard Drive to a new one

you got the idea. plug them both in and simply drag and drop from one to the other.
no reason to start installing software and such just to accomplish the same thing.
once it is all moved, then you can format the first drive and do whatever with it.

It depends on what is on that drive that must be copied.
If it contains OS, then you will need to use cloning software to move data to another drive.
If it's secondary data drive and contains just user files, then you can copy contents by drag and drop.
