Hi my external hard drive isn't reading on any computer and it keeps making a ticking sound as the the disk is jammed. Any suggestions or solutions?

If the data is something you can't afford to lose permanently, I'd recommend that you seek out a professional data recovery company. Not a computer repair place, but an actual data recovery lab.

If the data isn't that important, and you can afford the likely risk of losing it forever, perhaps you can post more info about the model, and a better description of the sound (e.g. does it spin up first, then click, or just a faint click and no spinning, etc.).

That's not good at all. I would definitely avoid powering it on again until it's looked at by a professional. If the data isn't something you can re-create and you can't afford recovery right now, I'd recommend you put it somewhere safe in case one day you have the funds and want to get it recovered.

Also if you let me know where you're located, I can probably refer a good company in your area.

This can come from a lack of power to the drive, for example if it has a dual head USB connection but you only plug one in or if the USB port you are using is not putting out the full power it should.
