Hi, I'm looking for some help upgrading my gaming PC. I live in Germany and will be buying parts here.

Here's my current build:

I would like to upgrade to a 144Hz, 1440p, 27in Freesync monitor and get an AMD card to go with it.

For the monitor I would probably go with Acer XG270HU:

For the card, I'm thinking R9 Fury Nitro because those are really cheap now:

The question is, whether R9 Fury Nitro is powerful enough for a monitor like this.
I understand I won't be playing Battlefield 1 at 1440p and 144FPS and Ultra settings.

Here's what I would like, all at 1440p:
- Old games like Painkiller or STALKER and indies like Heavy Bullets or Superhot at ultra, 120FPS
- Old-ish games like Shadow Warrior or Far Cry 3 at ultra, 90FPS
- The Witcher 3 or heavily modded Skyrim at ultra, 30FPS (which should still feel smooth with Freesync, right?)
- GTA5 at high, 60FPS
- DOOM at medium, 90FPS

You get the gist. I'm willing to sacrifice either graphical fidelity or FPS depending on the title, but not both.

So, would Fury Nitro be enough? Or should I rather wait for Vega?
And what about RX 480 8GB or Fury X? Is either of those a better choice?

Of course, I will very much welcome other advice, e.g. if you think I need to upgrade some other parts of my PC or if there's a cheaper monitor with the specs I want.

Thank you very much!

The 480 series cards came out to replace the 390, 390X cards. basically what i mean by that, is the 480 was never supposed to be faster than the Fury or FuryX and rightfully so, it isnt.

Basically to keep 1440p above 60FPS or closer to 144Hz, your going to Need the Fury or FuryX. Between the 2 I would compare price to benefits. Yes the FuryX is faster, but its more expensive.

The games you listed with the High refresh rate requirements should run fine on a 480, if your targetting "Average" frame rate. But i would suggest focusing on minimum frame rates for your pretty games. Keeping that in mind, the Fury and Fury X have great memory bandwidth which usually effects dips more than average returns. (since frame dips are usually the result of a large mass of information hitting the processor, which in- turn is usually related to a larger number of textures coming through the chip at the same time.)

So even if we dont want to buy the FuryX the Fury should provide smoother game play at 1440p. If we were down at 1080p the 480 would be a bigger competitor since @1080p we dont have the same stress on memory.
