Yep guys, just need your opinion, I'm planning on getting the GTX 1070 and I will upgrade my i5 4460 to a USED i7-4790k for $250 to reduce the bottleneck and enjoy the 1070 but the problem is I forgot that ram is also being a problem since there are games that currently recommend 16gb (Batman ark.knight and quantum break) and yeah, this thing is stopping me to upgrade my processor. If im going to get a 16gb ram then I would not get 4790k and just get a new 6600k with ddr4 because ddr3 will not be used on the next upgrade (probably 2019-2020) and it also means that I will spend too much and for me it's not worth it.

do you guys think that I should push through on getting the 4790k and stick with 8gb ram?
or sell my processor+mobo+ram and buy the 6600k with 16gb ram?

P.S.
I want to get a used 4gb ram but I'm not sure if it's going to work because the used ram i'm planning to get has a different CL but same speed (1600)

Well, I would say that the other posters are correct, 16GB is generally what is needed today but I would like to add something to the discussion as well. AMD's Zen-based FX processors will be in the retail space in February. Now, I'm not going to tell you to go get a Zen CPU if you want the i7 but I would say that rather than buying a used CPU, wait and see just how much prices fall when Zen is released if you are able to. It's almost October which means waiting about four months. If you can do that, great, if not, I would say go ahead and do the swap. Keep in mind, if you want DDR4, you'll have to change motherboards. You'll have to change motherboards eventually but I think that when Zen is widely available, prices on everything...

Most games these days require about 8GB, (new Battlefield game requires minimum of 8, https://www.battlefield.com/games/battlefield-1/tech) however, 16GB is generally your best option for games these days.

so it means that I can just drop the 4790k upgrade and get the 6600k?

It also comes to my mind that I should get rx 480 instead of 1070 and upgrade later on to Vega series GPU or to volta (I hope i has async compute + hbm memory)

right now I got r9 380 and playing @ 1080p 60hz
witcher 3 at medium settings is actually annoying for me

It will be a result of Intel not being able to sodomize their customers as hard as they've been doing with AMD unable to compete.
