I was recently given a Celeron E3200 and was hoping it would work on my Dad's Dell Dimension 2400, however I'm not familiar with compatibility lists and having real trouble trying to find out if it would work with the motherboard.

I think the motherboard is a: 0G1548 G1548 Socket 478.

Does anybody know if it would work or know where I can find a compatibility website? I tried visiting the Dell support site using his computer to run their machine detector thing but it said it cannot run it (perhaps due to it being a very old rig).

Solution
-The 1st P4 socket was 423.
No socket 478 is the older 2nd Pentium4 socket.
The newer one is socket775, many 775 boards work with both the Pentium4 cpus and core2 duo based ones like the Celeron E3200.

-The case is upgrade-able and you can put a micro-atx board+new power supply ect in it. It will add up and get costly. Likely even the HDD is ide and needs to be upgraded too. XP is tied to the board so you need windows 10 64.

A used but faster clocked 478 pentium4 would help a bit, but not enough for today.

-Look for used computer, maybe a store that sells refurbished computers. A used i5 quad core (watch...

Celeron's won't do well but it should work with the board as long it is the same socket as the board.

Don't worry about damaging the computer if you do put that CPU in the board. You can try and if it works, it works and if not then you can just put the old one back in.

I have a board that says the maximum CPU is a Core 2 Duo E7400 but it works with a Core 2 Duo E8400.

MAKE SURE THE USED SYSTEM COMES WITH WINDOWS 7 OR LATER.
