Is my PC future proof and am i overkilling it right now considering my monitor is only 1600x900?

My Specs:
i5 6500
GTX 1070 AMP Extreme
16GB DDR4 2400MHz
Gigabyte H170-GAMING 3 - DDR4 6th Generation MotherBoard

So its obviously an overkill but i chose this build cause i wanted to future proof my pc and wanted to be able to play games at ultra or high (or even medium) at 30-60fps 2-3 years down the road.
If i consider buying a new monitor 1080p 120hz, can i find anything for under 220$

Unless you have a Quantum computer (which i see you don't) then no, you are not "future proof".
Your system will be fine for a few years though so don't worry. :)

With your current hardware you should have no problem running games at ultra setting on a 1080p monitor. Can't guarantee 120fps in every game all the time but you should be good to go for a few years.
