If you don't plan to play in 4k or in VR, then you probably don't need the gtx1080 and will be a waste of money. Personally i would go for the 1070.

Here is the description of your power supply's tier in the PSU tier list : Built down to a low price. Not exactly the most stable units ever created. Very basic safety circuitry or even thin gauge wiring used. Not for gaming rigs or overclocking systems of any kind. Avoid unless your budget dictates your choice.

If you can buy the rm 750, then definately go for it to avoid any possible failures.

Frankly it doesn't make a difference if you Pair it with a 1070 or a 1080
Wattage is more than enough, both can be powered with 550W

The RMx is a very good PSU, the suggested XFX TS is really nice for when you're at a budget. So is the XFX Core / bronze fully wired (everything except XT-Series)
If you don't find XFX look for a Seasonic. They make nice cheaper units as well or a Corsair Cx550M (the new line with grey letters)

Your old PSU could be fine but there's no way to tell if it will be and how long it will work since it's of really mediocre quality

That PSU is junk. Also you don't need nearly 750 watts. 500 is more than enough. The EVGA 550G2 or Corsair RMx 550 would be fine. If you are running at 1080p you do not need a 1080. The 1070 is more than enough for 1080p and/or VR.

EDIT based on your update the 1080 is fine, you still only need a good 550w psu like I mentioned.

If you are not playing games, why are you not going with a Quadro? or are you playing games as well?

Good quality and cheap psu, will get the job done easily but isnt modular.

Maybe Thermaltake is not a good mark for PSU, but don't worry it will be enough for your needs. Better save money now, and go for better quality PSU in the future.

wont mind playing few games when not doing work but the result 1080 is giving on renders are great (my friend told me, plus quardo the new ones are really really expensive and the pascal tech is great they even updated the software (redshift) for it but i dont, if you can suggest any quardo in this limit with good result then 1080.

If you're going to play some games, and the 1080 gives you the results you want then I would suggest sticking with the 1080.

In the same price range the Quadro card you would buy has more tools available for some software, but will not game nearly as well.
