I was planning on waiting for Zen to release before I built a new PC, but my current build is not performing as well as I need so I'm looking to upgrade now.

I'm looking for the cpu that will perform best when using postgresql databases (biggest is 20GB and growing). When querying the database, my cpu usage for postregsql can spike to 30%+. This, coupled with all of the other software I have running, causes overall cpu usage spikes to 100%. And obviously, that causes a bunch of lag at times where I need a smooth performance.

Basically, I'm not sure if Skylake or Broadwell-e is better for this type of use. I would buy either the 6700k or 6800k. Those may end up being overkill for what I need, but budget isn't much of a concern; I just want the best cpu for my intended use.

I do plan on playing some games as well, but my primary concern is definitely the performance with postgresql.

Solution
The 6800K has better multithreaded performance, while the 6700K has better single-threaded performance. It sounds like you're able to saturate all of the FX's cores, so an Intel 6- or even 8-core CPU might be your ideal solution. You might consider the 6900K too.
