Hey guys and gals, I have a quick and hopefully simple question. I recently purchased the Lenovo Ideapad 300 17ISK and don't get me wrong, it's a great laptop. I edit videos and record game play with an Elgato HD60 and the Intel i5 6200U can handle it for the most part. I do have quality issues and every now and then the Elgato will freeze or skip. Now then, on to my question. Is it possible to upgrade the CPU from the i5 6200U to a 4th gen or newer i7? The chipset is FCBGA1356 but unfortunately I have been unsuccessful with finding the answer to my question so far. That's where you all come in! If you have any insight on my predicament please feel free to share. Thanks and have a killer day!

You need to look up what was the fastest processor that...

That CPU is not soldiered to the motherboard. If you can find the specs for your PC and find the fastest processor it came with AND buy said processor it should just drop in and work.

Now the downside. Laptop processors are not sold in stores, you will have a hard time digging one up without possibly buying a whole laptop to scrounge it from. You see where I am going with this?

Pretty sure the cpu on that isnt socketed. Its a $400 system...

I'm pretty sure it is. Some processors are not socketed, usually celeron and other lower end processors. Your assertion to most Laptop processors being soldiered is incorrect.

I have basically all the specs for the computer. I have an app called CPU-Z and it is very helpful.
My main question was, if I purchase an intel i7 that is compatible with my other hardware, should it work correctly?
I do not believe it is soldiered either, but can't say for sure.
Thanks!

You need to look up what was the fastest processor that Lenovo offered with that laptop and buy that. As I said though I anticipate you having a very hard time finding the processor on its own. It will just drop right in place. Then put some thermal paste on it (1/2 grain of rice worth) and install the cooler.

The fastest CPU for that laptop is what I have. It is an Intel I7-6500U. They do make faster ones in the BGA 1356 setup but Lenovo did not use them.
