Finally narrowed my pick on these two graphics card. Looking to play only 1080 at 30 to 60fps but unsure which to go for. I'm not looking to upgrade any time soon (maybe for 5+ years) so longevity is the key here. Which one should be better for me?
I'd opt for the GTX 1060 6GB, unless you run Win10 and find enough DX12 games to make a difference. Even then, at 1080p/60hz it won't matter as far as performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVM0Nb5crMM
Be sure to watch all the games and pay attention to not only the frame rate on the left graph, but the frame times on the right graph too.

Even with DX12 and Vulkan the RX 480 and GTX 1060 6Gb trade blows within 3% in almost all games with the 1060 being the slighter better one. Since both are almost identical in performance get the cheaper one.

Well this is a new build and I am planning on going for windows 10 for the OS as the other ones are way out of date (besides 8.1 but I do not wish to go for that older OS when 10 is out and work). There is like a £20 to £30 differnt between the two MSI gaming X cards. Is it worth it to spend £20 to £30 more for the Nvidia card?
It comes down to preference. If you like Nvidia get the 1060, if you like AMD then get the RX 480. Both cards perform almost identical so it's really up to your choice of brand.

I will just get the cheaper one than ^.^ the AMD card should perform well enough for me
