GPU doesn't work randomly

Hello all,

I have a radeon 290x I've had for about two years now. Recently, I swapped over to a bigger case to from a mid to a full tower. Ever since, I've been having issues with my gpu. It seems to overheat more (which I was about to combat with an cooler of some sort) but never let it get critically hot before shutting down.

Today, as I went to install more fans in my case, my gpu just started no long booting. I figured I may have knocked it loose in my travels throughout my case, so I attempted to re seat it , didn't work. I have tried that multiple times now, cleaning the ports, checking everything else, etc but nothing is working. It has twice randomly worked again then shortly after stopped.

Do you think my gpu is out the doorest? Time for a new one? Upgrade ideas?

I also have a 750 watt power source, 16gb ram, and I forget the motherboard currently.

Thanks in advance

I don't know what your budget is, but I would get a GTX 1070. I have one right now and it is a beast! One of the best cards you can get...

Did you try to fit it in the other GPU slot? Drivers Installed?
It might be time for a new one, if its broken it certainly is.

If you want to stay on a AMD GPU, you might get the rx 480. If not, you would like to get a gtx 1060 or maybe even a gtx 1070.

I doubt that, but it would be awkward if he hasn't connected his GPU to his power supply xd.

But if it was his PSU, I think his whole system would suffer under this, not only his GPU.

You also can try to fit the powercable of your GPU into another PSU slot.

I did try that as a last resort. Still nothing. Mildly frustrating since I got the gpu a little over 2 years ago. But that's how the cookie crumbles I suppose.

If I'm going to upgrade or get a new one, would the ones you recommend add a punch to my system? I'd love to basically future proof my pc enough or perhaps even get it VR ready

I can't seem to find the quote button on mobile currently, but yes I've checked the power supply. I checked that pretty heavily because of past mistakes (lol) but I do appreciate the reminder to check it!

Thanks to everyone responding so far. Means a bunch
