So I had to reinstall windows because of a stupid conflict I created between my motherboard and windows. Now all of a sudden my H100i v2 LED gets dimmer after windows boots up. When I turn the computer on and it's booting the LED comes on at its full brightness, then as soon as windows is up and corsair link kicks in it just gets much dimmer! Anyone know of a fix for this or why it may be doing that?

You need to connect the SATA power cable as well. It wont draw enough power from the cpu_fan header. In fact I think there's only a 'sense' lead in the cable (third wire of the four pins). Follow installation instructions carefully and you should be good.

Psu is corsair RM850I so plenty of power there, but I don't have it plugged onto the PSU, it's plugged into the cpu fan header on the mother board so I don't lose fan control. Is this not the correct way to hook up an air cooler?

It's also a good idea to use the PSU directly, if possible. That way, your motherboard doesn't have to supply power to all components and (maybe?) temps will be lower, too. The PSU should...SHOULD...provide stable power to the cooler, whereas the motherboard (which has many components and functions) has less control over what you're having it handle. The PSU should be more of a best of breed scenario over a jack-of-all-trades scenario that the motherboard would be.
