Hi,

I've currently got 2 x 4GB RAM from Kingston in my PC, specifically these: https://azerty.nl/producten/product_detail/?ID=428329

I want to add another 2 x 4GB to get to 16 GB total. I would buy the same RAM again, but they don't sell them anymore. What do you recommend I should buy?

More system specs:
- CPU: Intel i7 4770K
- Motherboard: Asus Z87-C

Solution
I'd go 1866 then as the max. Also if you consider trying to add, check that the DRAM you get will be returnable (if an online buy you'd still have to pay return postage) and make sure restocking fees (if any) are reasonable to you. With the prices of DRAM today, return postage and restocking fees can add up quickly, so if they don't play then you are out those fees and still might need to go full price on a 2x8GB set

But money :p

Alright, say I would go with 2x8GB, what would work best with my mobo/CPU config?

Edit: second question: what if I wanted to try to combine a new 2x8GB with my current 2x4GB (and get rid of the 2x4GB if it doesn't work), what do I need then?

you could always ... try it and return the memory. It's not like the memory you ordered will blowup if you stick in the same model 2x4gb.

BUT I seriously would consider trying the same model, filling out your mobo with memory cards is never a bad thing either lol.

@Tradesman1: I have no intent of overclocking, does that change your answer?

@unavailableartist: Sadly, the RAM I have isn't sold anymore, so that is not an option.

just get the 2x8 is only $70, and something that's more or less a sure thing. And if you're not over clocking... AT ALL! You don't even need 1866.

OK, I've installed the RAM and Memtest is currently running its first pass.

When I started Memtest I noticed the CAS timings where 11-11-11-28, so I immediately went to BIOS (UEFI, actually :p) and changed it manually to 9-9-9-27 (it was set to auto). Are there any other BIOS settings I need to check?
