Hi, stupid question perhaps, but I couldn't really find it on the interwebs.
Does a motherboard have restrictions when it comes to what Ram...thingy, is placed in it?

I know it's not my best English, but I lack the jargon in my second language to make it clearer. So I'll make the question a bit more expansive. I recently upgraded my graphic-card to GTX 970, and already have a i7-3770 3.4 Ghz quad core. I now want to jam in 16 Gb RAM. But I am not sure if i can just buy any brand or type. For example, I have my eye on 'Kingston HyperX Fury 16 GB DIMM DDR4-2133 2 x 8 GB' (only 80 euros), but am not sure I can use it. Any advice would be welcome.

Solution
The LGA 1155 socket, which your processor supports, only supports DDR3 memory, only LGA 1151 supports DDR4.
You will have to buy DDR3 ram, not DDR4. Also, if you buy 2400Mhz DDR3, it will first run at 1600Mhz until you OC it. Fast memory doesnt really benefit DDR3, so i would suggest 16GB(2X8gb) 1600Mhz DDR3 ram. Any brand will support, however Corsair, Kingston and G.Skill are the best imo

Perfect. Thank you very much for your help and quick reply. Following your advice, I will settle for Kingston HyperX FURY 16 GB DIMM DDR3-1600 rood 2 x 8 GB.
Thank you again. And have a great evening and weekend
