New SSD recognized in windows, but not in UEFI/BIOS

Okay, so I have a weird problem, and I know a couple of you think I have this backwards. I have an ACER Aspire E5-571, and I just added an SSD to its previously empty optical slot.

The cloning worked fine, and the SSD shows up as my G drive right now.

However, whenever I get into the UEFI (which is a massive pain in the butt because I can't just hit a keyboard button boot to do it) I only see the one hard drive, I don't see the new SSD, so I can't change the boot order.

I'm probably missing something small and dumb, because I'm not as savvy as I want to be. Please help? Thanks in advance!

It is conceivable that the laptop's BIOS/UEFI will not permit a boot from an otherwise bootable drive while connected in the laptop's optical drive bay. We have come across a number of laptop/notebooks that contain this restriction.

The only definitive way to determine if this is the case is to internally-connect the Samsung SSD in lieu of the present boot drive and see the results. However, you may wish to contact Acer tech support first to determine if this is a potential problem since other issues may be at play here other than what I've indicated.

What did you actually clone? Did you clone the whole drive? or just the main partition?

You need to ensure you clone the entire drive, including the boot manager partition.

I would actually suggest you clean install your OS on the SSD, opposed to cloning. It's just a smoother process with nothing left over from an older HDD install.

I cloned the whole drive using Samsung's cloning software, which is meant for swapping SSD drives to be the new Bootable drive. My concern is, even if I do a fresh install, will the new drive show up in the UEFI?

I've used Samsung's cloning software, and it's still possible to clone only single partitions - forgetting the boot manager.

Perhaps I misunderstood, the drive isn't showing up in the BIOS at all? Or is simply not present in the boot priority options?
