I have a gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD5 paired with my i7 6700k.

I got a stable (About 35 hours of prime 95/aida64 running simultaneously) overclock of 4.5Ghz with a MAX vcore of 1.27. It's paired with a noctua D15s so my max temps hit 64c. Also on the gigabyte motherboard I noticed there is no adaptive voltage only offset or fixed. So I used offset of course.

Seem like a good overclock? Last core I overclocked was my i5 3570k.

I just don't wanna destroy my chip from high voltages.

Thanks!

Yep, that's good. I'd say you were right in the middle sweet spot of GHz and Vcore and about down the middle with others at that overclock speed. Anything under 1.30v and you will not have to worry about chip degradation, especially if your temps are good (higher temps with higher voltages combined are real early chip killers).

Also, I'd recommend setting up two saved BIOS profile settings in your motherboard if it allows it. One profile for the overclock, and another for stock if you don't need the overclock (general use like web surfing and whatnot).

That's why I have my boot profile settings in the motherboard BIOS saved, not in some Windows driven software program from the motherboard. I boot with specific settings custom set by me in both overclock and stock.

So it's like choosing to boot with your custom overclock setting or booting with a stock setting. Profile 1 = stock setting, Profile 2 = overclock. I also have a "mid-range" overclock profile setting (Profile 3 for 4.3Hz ) for summer months when indoor ambient temps are warm. I'd never let a motherboard's software utility control my overclocking....always overclock from the "root" (BIOS).

That's why I only go for mediocre over clocks. I had it up to 4.9Ghz, not sure how stable, but had it there for a bit.

So I always settle in the middle so I don't have to worry about it again :p
