Slow first load on games.

Hey, I have been having some trouble with playing games from my HDD. The first load is incredibly long. To the point of sometimes in multiplayer games it disconnects me. My computer specs are:
i7 4790k
16gb pc3-10700 corsair
gtx 970
ssd (windows install)
hdd (for games)
It doesn't feel like playing a game from the SSD has the same issue. I know HDD's are slower than SSD's but I mean its so bad that if me and a friend play overwatch, and his computers older than mine, with an HDD join the same game, he'll get in in about 15 seconds and i'll time out for inactivity after a minute or so and the game still wouldn't have loaded. I was thinking of doing a reformat thinking something may be wrong with windows, but maybe its just my harddrive that is faulty. Is there ways to test it? Could it be ram? Should I do a memtest? Any help is appreciated!
EDIT: Forgot to mention after the first load its good for awhile, usually until the game patches or something.

It looks like indexing is on. I have defragged the drive before with no speed increase. Today I was playing path of exile, it took me about 6 minutes to load into the zone, upon finishing loading I was disconnected. Second load in once starting the game back up took just a second. When a game is loading and I have task manager up it claims its only reading the hard drive at 5-8 megs a second, is that slower than what it should be doing?

Almost sounds like a lan issue more than hdd. Loading anything from online goes through the SSD first as cache, explains why 2nd load is so quick, it's already dl any multi-player settings. If you believe it's hdd related, test that theory by starting a single player game, direct from the hdd with no online connections.

Hi, that is strange, I tried warhammer vermin tide solo play, and it loaded incredably fast. IN the past that game has gave me issues (playing with friends where it would take 3-4 minutes instead of today which was 4-5 seconds). My internet is pretty solid, I'm on a wired connection, could it be something with windows? Would you recommend a reformat? I was thinking of doing it anyway and getting a bigger hdd too.

EDIT: i dont know whats wrong with my set up. After rebooting I tried path of exile and again it loaded fast for the first time, assuming nothing would be cached (from the internet, or to the ram) I dont know what could be going on, its so frustrating.

Got any apple products? IPad, iPhone etc. They can soak up bandwidth like crazy. Might want to check Internet bandwidth and usage. Also check your router settings, if you are getting hijacked etc. Try to set up your pc for QoS, give common stuff like games a large portion of priority bandwidth etc.
I'd also turn off win10 auto updates, set for scheduled or manual, win10 is new enough that it's constantly using the net, syncing websites, getting updates, fixes, real-time Antivirus etc.

The weird thing about this is our internet is really good, we get a stable 100m down 20m up. Today path of exile was loading slow again, it just happens to be the first thing I try to play in the morning, but previously overwatch and warhammer vermin tide were loading slow too.
EDIT: No apple products.
EDIT2: I'll try playing something single player as soon as my computer starts up. I dont know if its possible, but it feels like whatever uses my HDD first just loads slow, then its fine afterwards if thats possible even.
