Master drive on Z170X Gaming 7

What the title says I just got a Z170X Gaming 7 mobo hooked everything up and it refuses to boot. The sata connection starts at 0-7 Would the master be 0? Or 1? My ssd has windows 7 on it trying to boot off that. My friend claims I need to reformat everything because it has my old board drivers on it but that doesnt seem right please save me Tom's hardware you are my only hope.

old windows 7 don't have the right driver, need to reinstall.

Do a clean install of Windows would be best, but try setting the boot mode to legacy in BIOS maybe.

The windows version is up to date the ssd just doesnt have the mobo drivers

Well the problem is it doesnt even bios beep like the ssd is in the wrong sata slot

No SATA slot is the wrong slot on that board unless you have NVME/m2 installed

why would the bios beep?
Are you getting all black screen? no bios screen, no nothing?

Its nothing all black 20 seconds later turns off all the atx are connected correctly

Hit delete as soon as it POSTs or it will be either trying to boot from an incompatible Windows or in the wrong mode, which you can set in BIOS.

what your full system spec? monitors? psu?

Try a different graphics output. Are you trying to use a native output with a GPU installed for example? Posting your full spec would help.

Full specs are that mobo with a gtx 970g1 benq xl2411z monitor 2x 8gb ddr4 and A 6700k i7 ssd with windows 7

Do you have your monitor plugged into the GPU rather than the motherboards native output? If so, try it vice versa.

Try unplugging the hard drive with Win 7 on and see if you can boot to BIOS. Is either that or the hardware isnt installed properly. Or a hardware fault but thats less likely.

Make sure your graphics output is working firstly to eliminate hardware faults, then try setting the boot mode to legacy. Is probably defaulted to support legacy boot though unless u changed it. Chances are you need to reinstall Windows, but you could try using a recovery tool from disc/usb

The mobo only has an hdmi slot so I plugged my tv to it didnt post plugged my 144hz to the gtx970 didnt post left them both plugged in unplugged the ssd and it randomly posted then plugged the ssd back in and it kept posting like 50% Done the startup to reformatting "expanding windows files"
