I am trying to build my first PC. My budget is $1000. I used this website to decide on these parts. I'm not sure what motherboard would work well with them. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/4K6Ppg
No overclocking. I want to use this PC to play, emulate and mod video games. I would also like to make some online videos. I don't know that much about computers yet.

Due to the i5 6500 and your desire not to overclock, the last motherboard you want is a Z170 board (which are designed with exactly that in mind, among other things).
For a cheap motherboard that can get the job done, whilst also slightly 'gamer' oriented, would be the B150 chipset, which can't overclock, as well as a few less important features, but can still hold a CPU and RAM, which is all motherboards should do. MSI has some nice, non-tacky B150 boards you can check out that don't break the bank, but still look nice:

Keep in mind, the motherboard isn't too much like a power supply, where you should spend money on it so it doesn't blow up your PC, but it is important to...

Keep in mind, the motherboard isn't too much like a power supply, where you should spend money on it so it doesn't blow up your PC, but it is important to spend at least a bit of your budget so you don't box yourself in too much if you want to upgrade. You can go much cheaper than the B150 chipset, with the H110 socket still able to hold your CPU and RAM and GPU, but lacking many features that you might like to have.

Speaking of upgrades, the CPU is fine, but wait just a tiny bit longer for the GTX 1050 to come out. Even if you still want the 950, the 1050 could give you much more performance for the same price, or, at the very least, discount the 950's price as companies try to get rid of stock. Either way, you're saving money if you wait, because the 1050 has already been confirmed, I believe.

Happy building!
