Hi, I need some help from you guys. Here's the story: I bought 2 MSI GTX 980ti gaming 6gs 10 months ago. Recently, one of them died from a shock from my monitor but that's not important here. Naturally, I took it to the retailer where I bought it from to claim the warranty. They ran out of stock for the GAMING 6G series and only have the ARMOR 2X series. They told me if I want it replaced fast, they can give me the ARMOR 2X, but if I am willing to wait for at least 4 weeks, they told me that they will bring the GAMING 6G card to China and have it fixed or replace by the MSI company.

Here are my questions:

- Will SLI between the GAMING 6G and the ARMOR 2X work?
- They told me they can replace both of my GAMING 6G cards (one dead, one working fine) for the cheaper verion of GTX 980ti, the ARMOR 2X ones so in case SLI between the different one wouldn't work. Should I replace both my old GAMING series (one dead, one working) for the ARMOR 2X series instead?
- Would I see any difference in performance if I replaced the cards?

Thank you so much for taking your time reading this long text and help me. So thank you in advanced.

Solution
I think it would be fine, you arent trying to push for super high OCs.
I wouldnt trust someone else to go take my card in for an RMA, because it could be weeks on top of that too (if it actually goes through).
1)Yes, it will work.
2)I wouldnt, no reason to.
3)No.

The only difference is the Armor 2x cards have slightly lower clock speeds and a less beefy cooler. That being said, the card still runs fairly cool. If you OC the Armor to match the clock speeds of the Gaming you will see zero difference between the setups.

So, do you suggest I get the dead card replaced only and use it as SLI with my old gaming one?

Wow, I think you're right. I wouldn't trust them to take my card all the way to China, too. Not to mention the uncertainty whether the card will be fixed or replaced by the company or not. I will make my decision with your advice in mind. Thank you.
