A Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smartphone caught fire inside an IndiGo aircraft while it was landing in Chennai on Friday morning. The aircraft was coming from Singapore. The aircraft made a normal landing and all passengers were deplaned as per normal procedure.

“While landing at the Chennai airport at 7.45 a.m., the cabin crew detected smoke from the handset kept in the overhead bin,” said Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official.

Earlier this month, DGCA has also advised the airline to make an announcement on every flight asking passengers to switch off their Samsung Notes on flights.
“IndiGo confirms that a few passengers travelling on 6E-054 from Singapore to Chennai noticed the smoke smell in the cabin this morning and immediately alerted the cabin crew on board,” the airline said in a statement.

In a another statement, the airline said they are ‘thankful to its passengers for their vigilance and cooperation’ extended to the crew.

The world’s largest maker of mobile phones recalled 2.5-million units of its top-of-the-range model, Note 7 after its batteries began catching fire while charging.

this phone was not the same model as that involved in the recall. There have been no previous reports of similar problems with the Note 2 model, first released in 2012.

Hi all, I'm using samsung J7. There have been recently reported that another model of samsung has fired during a flight. Why all the samsung models have started firing? Have they been hacked or something?

its not all of them, That article only making waves now cause of the recall, a 5 year old phone battery dying, how amazing. Its trendy now to pick on Samsung phones exploding, when Samsung have said a number of the reported fires are fakes. People will try to make money out of stories like this, try to claim damages that didn't happen - just like people who throw selves in front of cars and claim injuries

4 year old batteries are due for replacement anyway.

Samsung sold 292 million phones worldwide in just 4 months this year, the exploding ones get the news while the rest just keep working.

How often do you see good news??? Bad news gets peoples attention.

In 2 million Note 7s only 35 caught fire by the way. And about Note 2 getting on fire in plane, as Colif said battery is old but there are other reasons to consider as well. Did user used original OEM charger or not? Did he used original manufacturer's battery or not? Did he customized his OS by root or ROM or not. Btw I am Note 4 user for more than a year now, I bought it used, no warranty and I even use non OEM charger lol. and its working fine. Maybe device was tinkered with and on your source page there are no images just plain text, anyone can write it.
