games like gta v, assassins creed, total war are very cpu intensive games. As games develops every 2-3 years...the cpu have to do more work in another next 6 years...So, can i5 6500 make it for next 5-6 years..assuming i play at high or ultra setting?
if no, what cpu should i opt as a future proof...i5 6600k or i5 4690k or i7 6700 ?

Solution
Only consider the i5 6500, i5 6600k, or i7 6700k. The i5 2400 came out about 5 years ago, it is equivalent to an i3 6100 and can play latest game at Ultra/High 1080p. If you buy an i5 6500, it should be able to play games at Ultra/High for the next maybe 4 years but beyond that you may have to dial the graphics to Medium. Obviously all this is speculation, as nobody can know how things will be like on the next few years. The i5 6500 is a good processor, but if you want to be on the safer side and i5 6600k or i7 6700k will give a good deal of performance for gaming. Also, if you buy an i5 6500 now, you can always upgrade to an i5 7xxx in the future and Intel 7uth gen will have the same socket that 6th gen has.

For under $150 I suggest the Z170-A from ASUS or the board I just suggested (Z170-A Pro from MSi)

It won't overclock that CPU, but you can buy it with a i5-6500 no problem. It just won't be as future-proof.
