Okay so, some system specs first:

CPU: Intel i7-3770k
Mobo: Asus P8B75-V
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX660 (Messed with a bit and with a modded BIOS for OC)

Now, I'm new to these forums, so bear with me

I've recently overclocked my GPU, and I've been considering overclocking my CPU as well. I've heard that the 3770k has an unlocked multiplier that I should be able to fiddle with in Intel's XTU, but when I downloaded it and tried, I can't - it's greyed out, like most of the options. I was wondering if this means I need to contact Intel support and get them to make their program work, or if I've missed something fairly major. Also, general CPU overclocking guides and advice would both be appreciated, I'm new to all this as of maybe a week ago.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Help would really be appreciated guys. Pls.

Solution
Your motehrboard doesnt support overclocking, you must have a z68 or z77 chipset to overclock your cpu, you currently have a b75 chipset which is not made for overclock.

Okay, I was more just wondering if you knew of any particularly good value ones or whatever, but thanks anyway, I'll have a look.

Thanks again for the clarification!

At this point you cant be very picky because it is very hard to find a new one, 2nd hand yes they are plenty but as new board you need a lot of luck to find one.

EDIT: If you cant find new get one of these ASUS P8Z77-V, P8Z77-V PRO or P8Z77-V DELUXE they great motherboards for overclock, 1st one has 12 power phase design 2nd one has a 16 phase power design and the last one has a 20 phase power design so the more phases the better, if you can find a P8Z77-V DELUXE is the best.

Okay great, I'll have a look. I'm starting to consider a complete upgrade from my intel 3770k to an AMD FX 8350, in which case I'd obviously need a new board, and not any of those, but we'll see. Either way I've got choices to make

Dont do that, even and non-overclock i7 chip is much stronger then a fx chip.
