Why is router throttling download speed?

When my computer is plugged directly into the modem I can peak at about 115-120Mbps down. However, when I plug in through the router my download peaks at 85Mbps with nothing connected to the wifi, and Belkin's Intellistream turned off. Can anyone advise?

Modem: Netgear CM500
Router: Belkin N450 DB

Solution
Because that router is 100Mbit. You will be limited to 85 to 90Mbit. You need a gigabit router to get greater than the speed you are getting.

So why can I get 300Mbit on wifi but not through wired? That doesn't make any sense.

Because you got scammed by the marketing guys. Even if it ran 300m it would be 300m between your pc and the router, between the modem and the router it would still be 100m. The 300m though is a fake number you only get in a lab. In real world you get maybe 50m unless you sit right on top of the router and then you might get 70 or 80.

Awesome............. So what numbers do I need to check before buying? Because it was nothing about wired speeds or whatnot.
