I built this system January 2015. When i built it My buddy Helped me pick parts based on price vs performance. At the time he said that the 8350 was the pest cpu I could run with the board. He has a family now so He doesn't have much time to tinker with things like this anymore So picking his brain with this isn't something I'm going to wast time with.

PARTS.

OS
Windows 10

I'm looking to upgrade this system over the next 6 months. I don't have a set budget. I'm more looking for things To keep an eye out for when I look for things like daily deals on the egg. I know the mobo can use 32 gig of ram. the ram would probably be the first thing to upgrade. I was thinking 2 8 gig sticks first unless I found a good deal on quality ram set. from my understanding I can run different ram. like 2 4 gig sticks and 2 8 gig sticks but the mobo will only recognize the slower ram speed of the 2 sets? If i remember right the mobo didn't recognize the full 1600MHz of the ripjaw ram. I don't remember what it saw it as but I think It fixed when I went to windows 10.

I believe there are better cpus that will work with the mobo but that is Where I scratch my head. If I could get just as good performance or better from ocing that would be something I would be willing to learn. I just don't Understand what makes one better that the other I would assume its based on gig but I have read that isn't all there is to it. i know the board supports different chip brands as long as it is the same socket. I'm just leery because i bought the wrong cpu for a pc years ago and couldn't return it.

With video cards from what I can tell manufactures don't drop prices much when new ones come out but they phase them out so I don't know if its more realistic to sli or sell and upgrade. Im jot against used parts as long as its from a site that can facilitate returns and issues like ebay does. My buddy also said That I can oc the gpu as well. same thing I have never messed with it.

I also have a Power supply I was given by another friend who never ended up building a system. same with the case. its a xfx pro series 1250 watt gold. He gave it to me because he couldn't find any of the modular cords. When he gave it to me I didn't have time to look around for cords and everyone said that the manufactures customer service sucked and I didn't have time to dick the dog. I read conflicting things about getting after market ones but I don't know.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

The FX8350 is the best cpu that is compatible with your motherboard. Unfortunately the FX8350 is relatively weak these days compared to Intel's current stuff. Even the i3 6100 would be an upgrade for you and any i5 would be a huge step up.

Bottom line- I recommend you upgrade your cpu, motherboard, and RAM.

i5 6600k + Z170 motherboard + 2x8GB DDR4 RAM would do you well.

yes I have the fx8350. a new i5 would be better. considering your time frame u might just wait for reviews of zen in about 3 months. zen MIGHT be onpar cpu build to an i5 at a cheaper cost. we don't know what the market will be like in 6 months.

if ur doing the upgrade now though the i5 is the better choice.

It's true - there's no benchmark in the world that would say that the FX-8350 is faster than a 6600K. Unless you're zipping files or decoding video files.
